Exhibit B · Why copper stalled

Pushing electrical signals to multi-terabit speeds over copper causes signal degradation that gets worse with distance, and compensating for it costs disproportionate power — power that would otherwise go to compute. As large models push toward higher parameter counts and rack-level accelerator counts climb, the reach and power penalty of copper stops being a tuning problem and becomes an architectural ceiling.

At the same time, planning assumptions for AI rack power density are trending toward megawatt-class deployments within the next few hardware generations — compounding pressure on power delivery, cooling, and interconnect efficiency simultaneously. Optical links address the interconnect leg of that three-way constraint directly.
